Promethazine is one of the phenothiazines. Promethazine is used to treat allergies such as watery eyes, rashes itching, sneezing, runny nose, and hives. Promethazine is an antihistamine which changes the chemical in your brain and blocks the effects of the histamine in your body.

It can also be used to treat motion sickness, nausea and pain after surgery. It can be used as a sleeping aid.

However, Promethazine is not used for treating pneumonia, asthma, and lower respiratory tract infections.
